Amrietha Nellan: Undermining The Indian Sex Trade


Amiretha Nellan presented on her research: "How Effective Is an Education-based Approach to Undermining the Indian Sex Trade." She is a business economics and international studies senior, presented her research on the effectiveness of an education-based model to counteract the sex trade in India. Nellan evaluated a model that used information technology training and other computer skills to encourage former sex workers to move into professional jobs. One of the unique experiences available to undergraduate students at The University of Arizona is the opportunity to engage in original research. UA undergrads work alongside research professors, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, often in paid positions, and often are included as authors on papers published in academic journals. Nearly 30 students presented their work at the 22nd annual Undergraduate Research Forum, held on February 25, 2009.
